to Friends of the Læstadius Museum
The purposes of the Association are to stimulate, support and strengthen the activities of the Læstadius Museum at Pajala, and to market knowledge on the lifes and spirits of dean Lars Levi Læstadius and his wife Brita Cajsa
The Association of Friends to the Læstadius Museum cooperates with the district and the parish of Pajala, as well as with organisations that support our purpose. We also take part in the development of the museum, support training activities, and publish some information folders
The Association was founded at November 19th, 2008. For further information please contact any member of the board
A bus tour took place from Luleå to Pajala along the Torne river valley, at 7th - 8th of May, 2009. Visits were made to important churches and places, the theme was "Awakening in borderland", commemorating the year 1809. Two important Læstadius
weeks are planned for the years 2010 and 2011. The themes are shortly
described at the link "Læstadius
weeks" to the left. In 2011, we especially invite all foreign descendants of Lars
Levi to a re-union, starting at Pajala already
on Sunday 3rd July, 2011.
The preliminary agenda is:
- Monday 4th July: Re-union of all relatives, visit the graveyard, lectures
on the lives of Johan Raattamaa, Lars Levi Laestadius and his younger
brother Petrus Laestadius
- Tuesday 5th July: Formal opening, lectures on Lars Levi and Johan
Raattamaa
- Wednesday 6th July: Study tour
Pajala-Saivomuotka-Kuttainen-Karesuando-Lainio-Oksajärvi-Kangos
- Thursday 7th July: International perspectives on the Læstadian
movement
The week will continue at the Læstadius
Museum, at the Pajala market and with musical events in the Pajala church.
